In a survey conducted by InSites, an independent company on behalf of EURid, Found that approximately 63% of europeans know about .eu domain names and 45% know they can buy a .eu as residents of EU
“The registration growth has been exceptional and the increasing awareness of .eu domain names has played a significant role in this,” Patrik Lindén, EURid’s Communications Manager, commented.
25% of the surveyed do not pay attention to the top level domain while surfing and 10% believe that .eu domain names have an "international" feel most all associated .eu websites and emails with something "European"
Those most aware of the .eu domain names are Residents of the Czech Republic, Poland, Luxembourg, Greece, The Netherlands, Ireland and Denmark while those in Finland, France, Hungary, Spain and the UK are lagging behind.
.eu domains although only 1 year old have had some very strong growth and interest with 2.6 million registrations this year. the .eu domain names are already the 3rd largest name space in Europe behind .de (Germany) and .uk (Great Britain) and Internationally .eu is only beat by .com, .net, .org and .info although .mobi is looking like it will be a runner up in the future
.eu domains are owned mostly by companies and organisations about 70% while about 30% of the .eu domain names are owned by Private Individuals , by country Germany has the most .eu domain names with over 795,000 .eu registered domain names, next UK citizens with a little more then 439,000 .eu domain names registered. Followed by Dutch with a little over 320,000 domain names
